Penny, Ray Brown is in your neck of the woods -- enjoy!

Thanks for the congrats -- yes, lots of work. The kids each had a steer and then Laura also had a 2-year-old cow/calf pair, and a 3-year-old cow/calf pair. That's the maximum that will fit in our livestock trailer!

"Moreover, in another bit of news, many keen readers check out books at the library and then do buy them, having ensured they’re something we’d like to spend money on. We just don’t like buying a pig in a poke."

This is exactly what happens in our house. We will listen to the first audiobook in a series, and then Jane buys the entire series to read on her own. Can't tell you how many times that has happened. Or, I'll preview books from the library (often interlibrary loan) when pulling together ideas for future learning, then often buy the books because we want to have them on our shelves (or on our Kindles).

Thanks for posting about this subject, and for all the pointers!

Penny, thanks, I'll tell Laura. I think she was hoping it would be clearer, but it was dusk and those poles are petty tall.

Good luck with your presentations! "Fine arts 4H" sounds nifty : ) .

What a wonderful photo of the owl. Breathtaking.

We're just getting ready for 4H presentations around here - hopefully we'll enjoy success here too. Interestingly, ours is a fine arts 4H group, a far cry from the horse group I was in as a child. It's all good though. :)

Enjoy the music!

Sandra, it was in fact the first time most of the kids in the club had gone dog sledding, so not a common occurrence around here. But great fun!
