Our rabbits mentioned in a recent post, Claudia and Verbena, will now be known instead as Claude and Verbena.
At feeding time this morning, Laura discovered a nest topped with rabbit fur, and underneath three pink babies. Verbena had a litter shortly after arriving at our farm, but the babies didn’t survive. So this is a bit of a surprise, and a nice one at that. Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail all doing well so far. And I’m pleased to think that Verbena enjoyed a particularly good prenatal diet — the last of the garden’s lettuce, pea pods, carrot and beet tops, kohlrabi leaves and trimmings, odds and ends of cucumbers.
UPDATED on Saturday afternoon to add: All three babies doing well and hair starting to come. Laura is entranced with their teeny tiny ears and tails. I have to admit I was a bit worried through yesterday, when the temperature dropped considerably, down to the low/mid teens (Celsius) with rain. Not the best weather for small hairless creatures…

Congratulations! Hope you have lots of fun with the bunnies.
Déjà vu all over again!
Fiddler, thanks!
OC, the kids love the story of the basket of bunnies arriving on Christmas, even though it doesn’t end nearly as well as it starts.
re: your other note
They got me in remission for a few months but I’m sick again now. Hubby is not employed, kids are in public school, and I’m miserable because I can neither homeschool nor work.
